When you want to talk about the huge range of technology products available to people, many of them enjoy popularity as top-of-mind brands. These Dell Inspiron notebooks, more than anything, were designed to be desktop replacements.  
For mid-sized Dell Inspiron laptops, the first options were the 1520 and 1521. With more portable 15. 4� screen, these laptops were supercharged with up to 2. 5 GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a video card option of NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS/8600M GT. Using a DDR2 memory, this video card option is much slower than the ones in the gaming line of Dell, which instead uses a GDDR3 memory.
The extension of the mid-sized Dell Inspiron notebooks was the Inspiron 1525, which had a much weaker video card, using only an Intel X3100. Through these mid-sized options for Dell Inspiron laptops, it is evident that the company wants to differentiate the options between those who prefer using their portable systems for regular computing purposes, and those who need much more advanced requirements for their gaming. The 1520 and 1521 both had sufficient specifications for gaming, but still offered a weaker alternative to the XPS platforms. The Inspiron 1525 was an altogether different offering for regular consumers, making the Dell XPS M1530 more suitable for users who need more graphics power.
Dell XPS notebooks are Dellâ??s foray into meeting the needs requirements of their computer gaming market. These are an extension of the original XPS line of desktops that were originally offered to the market, obviously offering an edge in terms of mobility. The XPS line was designed to be the high-end gaming offering of Dell, with â??XPSâ? literally referring to â??Extreme Performance Systemâ?. Released first in 1993, the line has extended into producing desktops (XPS 270) for the market in 2007. These Dell XPS laptops are available in a wide range of screen sizes, with the biggest at 20â?, to 17â?, to 14. 1â? screens. The current offering for Dell XPS notebooks is the XPS M1730. With its 17â? screen, edgy white, red, blue or gray chassis options, Core2 Duo processors, and GeForce 8700M video cards, the model promises extreme power in edgy gaming.

Currently, there are just six video game console systems that are considered to be the most popular in the market. These would be the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Sony PlayStation 2 or PS2 and PlayStation 3 or PS3, the PSP or PlayStation Portable, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS. With six of them, it could be quite hard to decide on which one would best suit your gaming capabilities and requirements. Once you add in the other older console systems as well, the choices are even more endless.

You could first consider the price – this would probably be the biggest factor for most people as they choose a console system to use. Prices can be as high as $599 for the PS3 or PlayStation 3 to just $129 for a Nintendo DS unit. The NPD Group provided a reminder this week that market growth is not guaranteed. The gaming industry in the US ended the year (2007) with record retail sales of nearly $18 billion.

This week The NPD Group the industry-research firm released US retail sales data for the January 2008 period. While software sales for the month were up 11 percent to nearly $611 million, hardware sales fell by a quarter to around $378 million. Combine that with a modest decline in accessory sales, the industry overall was down 6 percent for the month, posting $1. 18 billion compared to January 2007’s $1. 25 billion take.

Despite this, the month contained indications that the industry actually grew. That was because the January 2007 reporting period was five weeks long as opposed to this January’s four-week span. Analyst Anita Frazier said that the numbers are much rosier when this adjustment was taken into account.

The big winner in the gaming market was console software which was nearly 50 percent up when compared to last year.

Hardware sales were down and a lot of this was to do with poor supply that assertion was backed up by a statement from Microsoft saying the Xbox 360 was suffering from temporary shortages.

Nintendo’s longtime lead on its competitors was also slimmed. The Wii once again took the console sales crown, by a narrower margin than in previous months. In a month that saw significant advances for the PlayStation 3’s chosen Blu-ray disc format, Sony’s system ran nearly neck-and-neck with the Wii, selling 269,000 systems compared to the Nintendo’s 275,000. 3rd placed Nintendo DS racked up 251,000 sales, while the Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable brought up the rear, selling 230,000 units each.

Familiar faces dominated the software list, with Modern Warfare and Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360 once again beating all challengers, notching up 331,000 in sales. Another favourite Guitar Hero on the Wii and Xbox 360 took third and fifth respectively, Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii was sixth and the DS edition of Mario Party in ninth.

A statement from Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello is confident the company’s revenue will jump to around $6 billion by the fiscal year 2011, with at least $900 million from digital revenue streams like downloadable content, in-game advertising and subscription fees. That would represent a growth of 71 percent over its 2008 fiscal year revenue forcast, which it expected to hit roughly $3. 5 billion.

Other new announcements made by EA yesterday included a release date of September 7 for Spore (and possible PS3 and Xbox 360 versions).
